To medicate or not to medicate. Just how risky are over the counter meds while pregnant?

As soon as I became pregnant, I vowed to not so much as take a tylenol. The perceieved risk was worth living with a headache or backache. Up until this week, I had dealt with every pregnancy sympton without any kind of medication.

This week, I called my doctor begging for a list of all the drugs I could take. I’ve been battling seasonal allergies which have turned into an ear infection and totally zapped my energy.

I feel guilty about it. I really hope the Sudafeds and ear drops don’t somehow affect my daughter despite reissurances from my doctor that I would be fine.

In the end, I think the risks are outweighed by a potentially harmful ear infection. I’m still not feeling well, so I was hoping you’d help me sort through this issue.

What’s your philosophy about taking medications while pregnant? Have you been taking medication to control pregnancy symptoms? Have you totally avoided medications? Think they’re necessary once in awhile?
